SHOW NOTES
1. God did not make you to . . .
serve him
worship him
love him
blame U
condemn U
1.1 God did not make you to condemn you!
Romans 8:1 (NIV) 1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in
Christ Jesus,
1.2 God did not make you to experience guilt
Isaiah 53:11 (NLT) 11 When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be
satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for
many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins.
2. God made you for relationship
God: “Let us make make . . .”
No virgin births.
God did not invent hermits!
Dying father in RDRH
Jesus: “I never knew you!” meaning “You never knew me.”
Jesus: “Why have you forsaken me?”
3. God made us so he could love us
Jeremiah 31:3 (NLT) Long ago the Lord said to Israel: “I have loved you, my people, with
an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.”
1 Chronicles 16:34 (NLT) Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love
endures forever.
Psalm 40:10 (NLT) by David I have not kept the good news of your justice hidden in
my heart; I have talked about your faithfulness and saving power. I have told everyone in
the great assembly of your unfailing love and faithfulness.1 John 3:16 (NLT) We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.
1 John 4:7-12 (NLT) 7 Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes
from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. 8 But anyone who does
not love does not know God, for God is love.
9 God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so
that we might have eternal life through him.
10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a
sacrifice to take away our sins.
11 Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other.
12 No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is
brought to full expression in us.
King David had God’s heart 3000 years ago
Acts 13:22 (NLT) But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about
whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do
everything I want him to do.’
David loved Saul’s sons Jonathan and Mephibosheth. David loved his dead, rebellious son: Absolom
2 Samuel 18:33 (NLT) The king was overcome with emotion. He went up to the room
over the gateway and burst into tears. And as he went, he cried, “O my son Absalom! My
son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you! O Absalom, my son, my son.”
Hosea 11:8 (NLT) “Oh, how can I give you up, Israel? How can I let you go? How can I
destroy you like Admah or demolish you like Zeboiim? My heart is torn within me, and
my compassion overflows.
Jesus loved his people that would not have him:
John 11:35 (NLT) Then Jesus wept.
Matthew 23:37 (NLT) “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and
stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as
a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me.”
4. God planned for you to be YOU
Ephesians 2:10 NLT For we are God’s masterpiece.
He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
God does not need another Jesus Christ. He made you to be uniquely You.
It is not WWJD (What Would Jesus Do?) but WCID (What Can I do?).
You are to reflect the love of God to the Universe as only You can.
a. Ian: I am curious about meanings. I need to know why and how? This often moves me
past the usual answers.
b. Warren: courageous believer.
c. Sascha: authentic and transparent presence.
5. God has always planned to adopt us into His intimate family
Romans 8:15 For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but
you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit
himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
Ephesians 1:4-5 NLT Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in
Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 5 God decided in advance to adopt us into
his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to
do, and it gave him great pleasure.
6. God has planned for us to sit with him on his throne
Revelation 3:21 To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my
throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my father on his throne.
Perhaps this is why Jesus says
John 15:15 NLT I no longer call you slaves/servants, because a master doesn’t
confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the
Father told me.
This will make it possible for you to reveal the love of God in a unique way since you are
uniquely made in God’s image. You can minister to the universe as God would because you are made in the image of God. How blessed are you!
