This third part of the Mantra addresses what the Bible says about what God does with out sins. It is shocking to realize that God understands we did not choose to be born here on this planet with its mess of a situation. When we understand what is really going on and have the courage to believe what God has already done it transforms our lives. We are never the same again.

SHOW NOTES
My Mantra. God knows me by name. I am precious to God. He does not hold my faults
against me. He wants me to live with him forever in deepest intimacy.
3. He does not hold my faults against me..
Jesus’ witness.
1. The paralyzed man let down through the roof
Luke 5:18-26 NLT 18 Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a sleeping mat.
They tried to take him inside to Jesus, 19 but they couldn’t reach him because of the
crowd. So they went up to the roof and took oD some tiles. Then they lowered the
sick man on his mat down into the crowd, right in front of Jesus. 20 Seeing their faith,
Jesus said to the man, “Young man, your sins are forgiven.”
The man believed his paralysis was punishment for his sin. Jesus is preparing the way
for the man to believe he can be healed.
21 But the Pharisees and teachers of religious law said to themselves, “Who does he
think he is? That’s blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!”
22 Jesus knew what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this
in your hearts? 23 Is it easier to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up and
walk’? 24 So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to
forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up
your mat, and go home!”
25 And immediately, as everyone watched, the man jumped up, picked up his mat,
and went home praising God. 26 Everyone was gripped with great wonder and awe,
and they praised God, exclaiming, “We have seen amazing things today!”
Jumped up. Picked up his mat. Went home praising God. “We have seen amazing
things today. ” We saw a man healed by Jesus to prove that his forgiveness was divine!
2. The Woman Taken in Adultery. Unforgivable under the law, like homicide, rebellion and witchcraft.
John 8:4-11 NLT 4 “Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of
adultery. 5 The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?”
6 They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but
Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. 7 They kept demanding an
answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never
sinned throw the first stone!” 8 Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust.9 When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the
oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. 10 Then
Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even
one of them condemn you?”
11 “No, Lord,” she said.
And Jesus said, “Neither do I (accuse you). Go and sin no more.”
Jesus has the creativity of love to find a way to deliver this woman from wicked men
and the unmerciful law.
3. Mary of the Perfume
Luke 7:44-49 NLT Then he turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Look at this
woman kneeling here. When I entered your home, you didn’t oDer me water to wash
the dust from my feet, but she washed them with her tears and wiped them with her
hair. 45 You didn’t greet me with a kiss, but from the time I first came in, she has not
stopped kissing my feet. 46 You neglected the courtesy of olive oil to anoint my head,
but she has anointed my feet with rare perfume.
47 “I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown
me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.” 48 Then Jesus
said to the woman, “Your sins are forgiven.”
49 The men at the table said among themselves, “Who is this man, that he goes
around forgiving sins?”
This man does miracles so people will listen to his message. His message includes:
“Your sins have been forgiven.”
4. The Thief Crucified next to Him
Luke 23:39-43 NLT 39 One of the criminals hanging beside him scoDed, “So you’re
the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!”
40 But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been
sentenced to die? 41 We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done
anything wrong.” 42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your
Kingdom.”
43 And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
Kindness would remember the man. Grace takes the man with him to paradise.5. Jesus Executioners:
Luke 23;34 NLT Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are
doing.” And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.
They did not ask for forgiveness—it was given. They were ignorant of the
consequences of their actions—Jesus took care of these too.
6. The Lord’s Prayer and Comment
Matthew 6:12, 14-15 NLT
12 “and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
14 “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive
you. 15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
If we refuse to forgive others it is because we have not received the forgiveness of God. If
we have not received the forgiveness of God it is because we have rejected it. It is rebellion,
not weakness, not ignorance, not misunderstanding.
PAUL’S WITNESS
Ephesians 2:1, 4-5 NIV 1 Once you were dead because of your disobedience and
your many sins.
4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even
though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ
from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)
1 Corinthians 13:4-5 NLT Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or
proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it (love or
God) keeps no record of being wronged.
Colossians 2:13-14 NLT You were dead because of your sins and because your
sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he
forgave all our sins.
14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it
away by nailing it to the cross.
Hebrews 8:12 NLT “And I will forgive their wickedness,
and I will never again remember their sins.”
Hebrews 10:17-18 NLT Then he says, “I will never again remember their sins and
lawless deeds.”
18 And when sins have been forgiven, there is no need to oDer any more sacrifices. The reason Jesus does not die repeatedly is because there are no more sins to forgive.
THEY ARE ALL TAKEN CARE OF.
Wickedness is worse than sin. It is rebellion, unforgivable in the Old Testament (Numbers
15:30-31).
The New Covenant is infinitely better than the Old Covenant in many ways. In the New
Covenant murderers, adulterers, witches and wizards, and rebels are forgiven. This is what it means to say that “while we were dead in our sins.” This describes a time when we had no desire for holiness or righteousness, “God made us alive with Christ early on Easter Sunday morning” out of his own mercy and compassion. Can your brain handle it? Once your brain has processed the shock can your heart ABSORB this truth?
The New Covenant has got to be the most shocking truth ever revealed to humans about
the heart of God. Moses could not handle it—nor could the Israelites. Most Christians
cannot either so make up requirements for God’s free, sovereign forgiveness. We are called to be believers in what is impossible for selfish hearts to believe. If you are a believer a miracle has happened?
BUT WHAT ABOUT 1 JOHN 1:9?
1 John 1:8-10 New Living Translation
8 If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the
truth.
9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and
to cleanse us from all wickedness.
10 If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his
word has no place in our hearts.
These three verses form a sandwich. Verse 8 and 10 are the bread. Verse 9 is the filler.
Verse 8 and 10 are claims, by some, that they have no sin. This is self-deception. Verse 9 is a promise that when we recognize our sin God forgives us AND cleanses us from all our wickedness.
James Wilson: Adventist sniper in Vietnam who stood on a land mine and could not believe God could forgive him.
If you are a believer, you may tell every man and woman you meet: “Your failures are
forgiven by God. He knows you never chose to be born here. If you had been bornelsewhere in the Cosmos you would have been perfect. God sees you as perfect. He loves you.”
