THE GIFT OF GOD

FOR IT IS BY GRACE YOU HAVE BEEN SAVED, THROUGH FAITH AND THIS NOT FROM YOURSELVES, IT IS THE GIFT OF GOD. Those who accept the Saviour, however sincere their conversion, should never be taught to say or to feel that they are saved. (Christ’s Object Lessons, 155) This is misleading. Everyone should be taught to cherish hope and faith; but even when we give ourselves to Christ and know that he accepts us, we are not beyond the reach of temptation. (155)

FOR IT IS BY GRACE YOU HAVE BEEN SAVED, THROUGH FAITH AND THIS NOT FROM YOURSELVES, IT IS THE GIFT OF GOD. Saved from what? Sin—Law breaking (Jm 3:4), coming short of God’s glory (Rm 3:23), rejecting Jesus as Saviour (Jn 5:39-40; 12:48). Selfishness—Money, time, thoughts Shame & Guilt—personal (Adam and Eve—not good enuf! This is why we cannot believe the gospel ) Separation from God’s heart—Eternal death
